The Yankees’ surprising lack of demand for pitching
Every year it seems that the story of the trade deadline is the same: pitching, pitching, pitching. This year isn’t much different, as Cole Hamels and Zack Greinke are drawing major headlines and the Yankees are being connected to lesser talents like Francisco Liriano and Wandy Rodriguez, but for the most part speculation about the Yankees dealing for an extra starter has been surprisingly muted once the immediate aftermath of the injuries to Andy Pettitte and C.C. Sabathia passed. There’s a perfectly logical explanation for that though: the Yankees just don’t need any extra pitching right now.
