Q: Why can't I view or post on the forum?

A: Did you follow the instructions and activate your account via the link sent to you in an email to the email address you used to register with? If not, you'll need to do so before you can post. Click here for more info. If you already activated your account, click here for more info.

Q: I never got the activation email from you guys after I registered.  What gives?

A: First, make sure you entered the right email address.  You can check by logging into your profile.

Second, check your spam/junk/bulk mail folder.  This is the most common reason for users not receiving the activation email.

To have the activation email re-sent, click here.

Last, if none of that works, let us know.

Q:  I've been able to view the forum or post in the past, but suddenly I can’t! Have I been banned?  All I did was change my email address in my account profile, honest!

A: No, you haven’t been banned.  After you changed your email address, we sent another confirmation email to the new address.  You’ll need to follow the link in the email to activate the new email address.  And you won’t be able to post until you’ve done so.

Q: I've already activated my account and I still can't view the forum or post

A: Sometimes we enable manual approval of registrations. It's possible your account hasn't been approved yet. Give us 24-48 hours, and if you still haven't heard from us, let us know.

Also, make sure you have cookies enabled. You'll need them in order to post and they'll make your stay on the forum much more enjoyable.

Q: I've tried all of that already, and I still can't view the forum or post anything!

A: Then you are probably an AOL user. You'll need to make sure cookies are enabled, and some users have had better luck using a real browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer to browse the forum while connected to AOL.

Q: Why can't I start a new thread in any of the baseball forums?

A: We require users to have 50 posts AND be a member for 6 months (180 days, to be exact) before they are able to start a new thread outside of the Introductions or Suggestion Box forums.

We created this rule because we feel it's important for new users to have some time to participate before jumping right in. In other words, it gives people time to learn our rules. It also cuts down (significantly!) on the amount of duplicate and misplaced threads, not to mention spam.

Q: I know you told me to read the Community Standards, but there’s too many of them!  Do I have to? And besides, who has time to read all of them?

A: For starters, people who intend to keep their posting privilege read all of them.  And yes, you have to.

Q: What are the user status levels, and when is mine going to change?

A:  The user status levels are below:

New Member: 0-9 Posts
Member: 10-149 Posts
Senior Member: 150-249 Posts
Forum Regular: 250-399 Posts
Addicted Member: 400-749 Posts
Devoted Member: 750-999 Posts
NYYFans.com MVP: 1000-1499 Posts
NYYFans.com Cy Young: 1500-2499 Posts
NYYFans.com Triple Crown: 2500-3499 Posts
NYYFans.com HOF: 3500-4499 Posts
NYYFans.com Legend: 4500+ Posts

Any moderator or administrator will also carry a “NYYFans.com Team” designation.

Q: Those user status names suck!  Can I create my own?

A: Sure you can! Right after your 2000th post or you’ve been a member for 365 days, whichever comes first.

Q: What do the “Read All” and “Mark Forum Read” links do?

A: Surprisingly, it does exactly what it sounds like it will do.  It will remove the “New Post” indicator from all threads on the forum or in a particular forum depending on which you click.  This is a good way to keep track of threads you’ve read.

Q: Who cares about proper spelling and grammar and all that stuff? This is the internet.

A: Well, we care...but the sad truth is that other posters might skip over your posts if they're too hard to read. Things like proper spacing, capitalization, and punctuation make your posts much easier on the eye, and they make you look like quite the Captain Smartypants, too.

Look, we're not grading you. You won't get banned for misspelling "definitely" or anything (but you can find a spell-check program that might help). Just try your best to write neat, coherent posts. Don't type "2" for "to," or "U" for "you," or "l8r" or "LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!" or any of that nonsense. Throw in a carriage return now and then to break up the text, and please use proper capitalization.

"But --"

No. Your computer comes with two shift keys. Use 'em.

(The above borrowed from TelevisionWithoutPity.com because it simply can’t be said any better)

Q:  I read this great article and I’d like to share it with the forum.  Can I copy and paste it into my thread?

A:  No, posting the full text of an article is not allowed.  Please just post a link to the article so we don’t get in trouble for stealing someone’s copyrighted material.

Q: Everyone has those cool pictures of players under their name – how can I get one of my own?

A: Avatars are provided to users who have been active participants in the forum. We have a few generic avatars you can get now, but generally you need 1,000 posts for one of the player avatars.

Q:  Your avatars suck!  Can I use my own?

A: Sure, after you’ve posted your 5,000th post or you've been a member for 2 years.

Your custom avatar must be no larger than 90 pixels in width or height, and the file size no bigger than 25kb. Custom avatars can also not be animated GIFs.

Custom Avatars aren't allowed by default because we like to maintain the clean, organized look of the forum. Everyone having their own avatar from day one would be very distracting.

Q: I‘m a history buff.  How do I access the archives?

A: Have fun!

Q: I've seen the Sports Bar Forum mentioned by a lot of people around here, but can't find the front door, so to speak. How do I get in?

A: After you’ve posted something somewhere else on the forum, go to this page to request access. Your account will be given permanent instant access to the Sports Bar forum.  It will be in the list of forums from now on.

Q: How can I upload an image and include it in my post?

A: See the tutorial located here.

Q: I don’t need to upload an image, it’s already located on the internet somewhere.  How can I include it in my post?

A: See the tutorial here.

Q: Okay, I like to take my time when reading or posting on the forum.  How come sometimes I’m logged out automatically?

A: A session lasts for 15 minutes after your last activity.  If your options are set to automatically log you in all new post markers will be reset.  If not, you will have to log in again.

Q:  You guys are getting ahead of yourselves!  Why is the time 5 hours fast on this forum?

A:  The time is set to Greenwich Mean Time by default.  You can adjust your time zone settings in your user profile in order to show your local time.

Q: If I post my thread in the wrong forum or am unable to delete a thread I started, should I use the “Page a Moderator” link?

A: As much as we like to keep the forum clean and tidy, we like to reserve paging a moderator for problems that require immediate action.  While posting your thread in the wrong forum is not cool, and realizing that you messed up is – let us know in the Suggestion Box forum.

Q: I don't like my username, can you change it for me?

A: No. Unless you register with your legal name by accident, or there are other circumstances that warrant your user name be changed, we are unable to change your username.
